Postgraduate Research Studentship

Capacity Building and Establishment of a Research Consortium in Nanomaterials for Clean Energy Technologies

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for Postgraduate Research Studentships to work at the University of Jaffna under the general theme of Nanomaterials for Clean Energy and Health Applications.

Selected candidates should register and work full time for an MPhil degree at the university,  preparing progress reports and research publications and assisting the research supervisors in all activities related to the project.

Required Qualifications:

  • BSc Honours degree in Physics / Chemistry / Engineering with minimum GPA 3.0.
  • BSc General Degree with Physics / Chemistry as a subject and MSc degree in Physics / Chemistry / Materials Science/Medical or Biophysics.

Candidates may apply for the following work:

  • Biomaterials

This work will be based on developing functional engineered bone-tissue constructs, with combinations of cells, growth factors & the appropriate biomaterial scaffolds. The position is open for those who have the above academic qualifications in the relevant subject area. Preference will be given to those who have research experience in biomaterials.

  • Electronic devices

This work will be dealing with the fabrication and characterization of perovskite FETsand will explore their unique optoelectronic properties. The position is open for those who have the above qualification and interest to do research in the Physics of electronic devices. This position is suitable for those who have experimental and theoretical knowledge in fabrication and characterization of thin-film field-effect transistors. Preference will be given to those who have research experience in electronics.

Age: Below 35 years of age by the closing date of the application.

Remuneration: Rs.50,000/- per month (fixed)

The period of appointment would be 24 months. On the satisfactory performance of the candidates, a scholarship to work in the laboratories of Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norway for up to nine months will be provided.
